LUgrid is a national grid infrastructure (NGI) that provides reliable high throughput computing resources to the research community in Luxembourg. As such, LUgrid is part of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI), a federation of NGI's across Europe. LUgrid operates in close collaboration with BEgrid, the Belgian Grid for research, to provide the resources needed by the research community in Luxembourg.
What is GRID computing ?
GRID is an analogy to the electrical power grid. The idea is to abstract the access to computing power. The resources are available to the users without knowing exactly where those are located. The benefits of GRID computing are the large shared computing and storage capabilities available to all researchers, allowing them to compute models and simulations quickly and store high amounts of data safely, thus accelerating and improving their work.
